This is an exciting time for our Association! An Alabama AYC Planning Council is leading a “revitalization” effort with the aim of identifying and establishing a series of continuous improvement and reorganization measures to help ensure that AAYC is responsive to its members and focusing on its mission of “promoting quality early care and education for young children (zero through eight years) and their families through education, legislation, and collaboration with groups that share similar goals.”
The AAYC Planning Council is made up of individuals from across Alabama and includes representation from current and former Board members as well as support and representation from SECA and guidance and support from the Affiliate Relations Division of NAEYC. Information about the purpose, charge, and membership of the Planning Council is enclosed. We encourage you to contact members of the Council to hear updates and gain more information about the exciting possibilities ahead.
Since one of the major tasks of this Council is to carry out the election of a new Board, we are seeking individuals who would like to become involved in AAYC either in an elected position, or on a committee. Open positions include President, Vice President of Program Services, Vice President of Membership and Outreach, Secretary, Treasurer, and four Members-at-Large (these will represent a particular geographic area of Alabama). Other volunteer possibilities include working on committees in the area of Program Services (such as Public Policy, Accreditation, Month of the Young Child, and Conference) and committees in the area of Membership and Outreach (such as Membership, Community Outreach, Student Group Outreach, Communication, and Technology).
If you are interested in becoming involved in AAYC, we invite you to read the links below with information about AAYC:
You can let us know of your interest by August 20, 2008, in a couple ways:
- Complete the Prospective Board/Committee Member Information Sheet and mail it to AAYC, P.O. Box 1169, Decatur, AL, 35602.
- E-mail questions and/or indication of your interest to Melissa Werner at melissa.werner@athens.edu.
As we continue this “revitalization” effort, we look forward to having your input and having your involvement.
Sincerely,
Alabama AYC Planning Council Members
